New White Paper: Mobile Devices

Clark @ 12:23 pm

I’d started writing up mobile learning for either a book or a chapter. However, the part on mobile design got written into the eLearning Guild’s 360 Research Report on Mobile Learning (which I highly recommend, with great chapters by David Metcalf, Judy Brown, and more). With that out there, I was at a loss as to what to do with the rest.

Well, I first finished writing the part on the technologies, the devices and the networks, and figured I’d make it available while I decide whether I want to write more about tools than I already have. You can find this 10 page 3.1 MB PDF here. I welcome feedback on whether you like it, find it useful, what’s missing, etc.

  1. Nice one. A good and clear overview of mlearning and devices, issues, I think this would be very helpful for anyone who is new to mLearning and a low user of mobile devices. I don’t know if necessary, but it may be useful for some people , at the end of the paper to specify where to go next paragraph or 2, e.g. if they now understand what the different features for example of devices and connectivity, what are good resources/examples which have used some of these featues.

  2. Nicola, Thanks for the kind words, and great feedback! I’ve added a sentence to the end, pointing them to the Guild’s research paper as a next step.

  3. hi Clark, nice paper with indeed a clear overview. To my opinion it is focussing a lot on technology and less on the learning side. I would put in more specific mobile learning pointers in: identity, context… this would also benefit first time users/interested ones and add to the educational part of this group as well.
    nice QRcodes btw :-)

  4. Ignatia, thanks for the feedback. The learning part is (hopefully) in the Guild’s research report which I point to. This piece is specifically about the devices, since that wasn’t covered in the piece that’s already been written.
