But as you find a presentation lacks any content of substance – or is all material you’ve seen before – you might as well get other things done waiting for something interesting to be said.

As a presenter, I don’t care if there’s Wifi in the room with possible competition for me. If I’m not providing value, then go ahead and get other things done.

Unless the topic is engaging, exciting and of interest to the attendees then they will find something, anything to take their minds off of it. Whether that is doodling, twirling their hair or checking emails.

Your points for having WiFI are just as valid. The last conference I attend I did exactly as you said…something came up in a presentation that I had never heard about, grab the laptop, found a hotspot and learned what it was before I moved on to the next session.
