I never thought of differentiating experts from collaborators. Performance management consultants need to be skilled in social learning and have the ability to engage and assess audience needs.
I would want any “expert I work with or hire to be highly skilled at working within a collaborative context. I think those of us that have continued to stay abreast of trends and needs continue to raise our own bar as consultants. Experts need to be collaborative and able to work within and promote a “culture of engagement”.
