I’ve done that in a number of areas, e.g. presentations. Or decide it’s important enough that it’s worth hiring help to help you accelerate. I did that, as the post mentions, in the sales side. Still in process, actually. Wishing you all the best, — Clark]]> In reply to JS Russell.

JSR, congrats on retirement (I have no idea what that means ;). Skills will transfer, some positively, some unfortunately negatively. I recently heard a colleague say: you should always have a mentor, and sometimes a paid one would be good.

Not sure what you perceive as your gaps, but you want to figure out the areas you feel you need assistance in, and get it! One is to decide you’ll learn about it on your own, set your learning plan and benchmarks, and go (you should always be learning). I’ve done that in a number of areas, e.g. presentations.

I need to continue to work and never imagined that the corporate learning area would be so different than what I had been experiencing. I feel confident that I have strong parallel skills that would transfer, as my accomplishments within that genre have solid data to support that success. However, I feel like I have opened Pandora’s box and need some mentoring, coaching and general insight into a starting point. I was a champion of children for 25 years and now I need to find a champion of my own…was hoping you might have some thoughts.

Grateful,
JSR
