I’ve been seeing this phenomena taking place for years and was first alerted to it by Richard Clark’s research. Sadly I must say this is also occurring big time in education, especially in STEM courses. I’ve been looking closely at my daughter’s advanced high school course materials, sitting down with her shoulder as she watches instructor videos in physics, math and other technical subjects. I am appalled at how poorly most teachers are at explaining difficult concepts and even providing instructions for assignments. It’s even worse in higher education. No wonder we have such a high dropout rate for STEM courses in this country. Thank you Clark for bringing this research to the attention of learning design professionals.
