You’re right on the issue of who we’re selecting as trainers. Another part of that same problem are the vast swaths of people who trip into L&D unintentionally and then don’t take the time to learn, ask questions, etcetera. They mimic infodump e-learnings, rely on those zombies, and so on. They don’t have the peers to drive them to improve (since sometimes they’re a department of one). This isn’t completely their fault; businesses need to be more rigorous in how they approach hiring these folks, especially those businesses that don’t have an established L&D team led by a qualified individual.

Of course, some *do* have drive and want to learn, and they seek and improve (though, where are they looking?). But for those that don’t know what they don’t know… well, it’s tough to reach them.
